Dying To Dance

Chapter 11:

Back on the road, the duo chatted and joked about their first encounter back in the palace ballroom. Though they had only known each other a couple of days, the two felt as if it were a lifelong relationship as they shared interests, personal experiences and hobbies.

They had been walking for some time now, so long in fact the sun was beginning to set, turning the sky into a beautiful mix of fiery colours, washed over the horizon like a water colour. In the distance, gradually growing closer, a lone silhouette made it's way towards them, blurry against the sun's fading rays of light. With a mixed look of caution, suspicion and curiosity plastered on his face, Frazer instinctively pulled Lillith to his side as the dark figure slowly came into view. Squinting his eyes against the sun's setting rays, the vampire's heightened vision gradually began to acknowledge a familiar face. His mouth dropped open, as did the approaching stranger's as they both let out a remark of surprise and disbelief.
"Kael?"
"Frazer?"
Lillith blinked, confused, at the boys' gaping mouths, but she couldn't tell if they were friends or enemies... She stared from one to the other, unmoving from the vampire's side, then resting her gaze upon Kael. He had golden eyes set into his pale, cheeky face framed by masses of untidy spiked black hair that shimmered violet under the sun's setting rays. He wore a white T-shirt, visible beneath a black hooded jacket. His lower half was dressed in faded grey jeans hanging over scuffed trainers.
All in all, pretty damn fetching. Lillith's eyes shone as Luska cursed heavily.
"Kael..." Frazer repeated, this time with a cold ring to it, "what a surprise."
The demon let out a cheerful laugh and slapped a hand onto the vampires shoulder, giving it a friendly shake. "Long time no see, Frazer, boy!"
Lillith noted his broad, South London accent, compared to Frazer's smooth, well-spoken British tones.
Frazer threw him a noticeably fake smile and brushed his hand from his shoulder with a small sigh causing Kael to roll his eyes.
"Looks like someone's attitude hasn't changed," he said with a mocking grin, sliding his hands into his pockets.
His attention then switched to the attractive young girl at his side. "Who's the pretty lady?" he asked with a taunting smirk.
Frazer sneered slightly at the demon's comment and flashed him a threatening glare before briefly and reluctantly introducing Lillith.
" Kael, this is Lillith, Lillith...Kael "
The demon flashed her a dashing smile, accompanied with a cheeky wink, as he shook her gently by the hand.
"A pretty name to match a pretty face, I see..." he cooed, his charming smile forever on his face.
Frazer rolled his eyes. "You haven't changed much either.." he scoffed, snaking a hand around Lil's waist and tugging her away.
Kael chuckled at Frazers attitude towards him.
Cheeks still red from Kael's heart-melting gaze, Lillith was curious as to why Frazer was suddenly so protective of her- though she didn't object, Kael didn't look that dangerous... Luska, meanwhile, was cursing and ranting away- more so than usual, anyhow.
"C'mon Frazer... I know you've missed me."

Several hours later, the moon once again shone brightly overhead, surrounded by a scattering of twinkling stars. Lillith sat cross-legged on the ground, warming her hands by the roaring fire. They had decided to set up camp- not wanting to travel at night and, also, because they had been doing so all day; the angel was exhausted.
Introductions aside, the trio had been chatting animatedly since, and as stories unravelled, Lil found herself asking more and more questions...
"How did you and Frazer meet, Kael?" she inquired, the vivid flames reflecting in her curious eyes. She thought randomly of how quiet it seemed without Luska, who had been grumbling for hours on end and now took to staring intently at Kael.
Kael gave an almost bashful laugh as he scratched the back of his head and shuffled in his seat. At the opposite side of the flames, Frazer chuckled quietly to himself. The first time he met Kael... That was a memory he would never forget.
"Well..." the demon began, scratching his nose, "it all started when I walked my mate Holly back from school one evening. She had planned to meet Frazer somewhere in town and, with the streets being dangerous at night and I being the gentleman that I am, decided to escort her there."
He paused and flashed Frazer an impish smirk across the fire before continuing.
"We soon arrived and good old Frazer here was late, so I gave Holly my jacket and waited with her. After about half an hour of standing about in the cold, I suddenly get grabbed by someone and smashed against a wall, an earful of threats and insults being spat all over me."
Frazer rolled his eyes at Kael's dramatic version of the story.
"Holly starts screaming and dragging the guy of me, who funnily enough turns out to be demon hater here..." Kael said with a smirk, jerking a thumb over to the frowning vampire. "Goodness knows what happened next, all I remember is I ended up with a split lip, him with a black eye and Holly in a very bad mood getting picked up by a very amused Craig..."
Lillith wasn't sure whether to laugh or bite her lip, then she caught Kael's eye and her mouth curved into an unintentional grin. Luska, however, was extremely peeved, resuming his pointless seething. What's up? Lil asked, in a bored sort of voice. But, rather than answer, Luska simply burst forth, taking over the unsuspecting angel as she lurched forward. He closed her vibrantly coloured eyes, sucking in deep breaths through her teeth and clenching her fists.
"Demon hater?" he rasped, eyelids snapping open. "I'll say. You got off alot easier than me, kid- he's a mental case, this one."
Luska glanced between the two boys, face curled into a loathing sneer- the demon hater on one side, the actual demon on the other, not one of the best moments of his prolonged life.
