Dying To Dance

Chapter 13:

Kael cocked an eyebrow then gently shook his head.
"He probably won't be back til the morning," he mused, pulling ruffling his hair. "You don't mind if I sit here with you?" he asked Lil, frowning slightly. Trust Frazer to just up and leave in the most awkward situations.
"Of course not," replied Lillith, patting the ground next to her, but she was staring in the opposite direction, squinting into the darkness where Frazer had just disappeared. She frowned too- she didn't like it when he just stalked off, and hated it when he was upset; she could tell by the way he'd talked. The girl tore her gaze away from the patch of trees and turned to look back up at Kael, smiling weakly.
"Poor Frazer," she said sympathetically. "He's really down." She paused. "What were you and Luska arguing about?"
Kael shrugged and slumped down next to her.
"Oh, I dunno..." he sighed, tilting his head left and right until it cracked. "Just about the fact he's a demon, possessing an angel. He got a bit violent towards the end though."
He flexed his shoulders and groaned slightly. He was tired after all his travelling.
"It was my fault though... Frazer told me to shut up but I got a bit carried away. I'm sorry," he added.
"Hmm... It's OK." Lillith gazed skywards, peering at the bright stars between the swaying leaves. "But... why does Frazer hate demons so much? And then there's you... You're a demon and he gets along fine with you..." Lillith glanced again at the shadowy path in the trees, then turned back to Kael, eyes bright with curiosity. Unthinkingly, Lil stroked her now-healed hand, which Frazer had held just a couple days ago... It seemed like an age with all that had happened since.
Kael ran a hand through his hair and sighed heavily, shutting his eyes.
"It's a long story..." he began, his voice low and slightly slurred. "When Frazer committed his first brutal murder, it was a bunch of Demon Authorities that captured him. They held him captive for about a week..." He slowly opened his eyes and frowned. "God knows what they did to the poor guy, but when he finally escaped, he looked at me and other demons like we were filth. It's only because of my relationship with Holly that our bond grew stronger."
Kael paused and chuckled softly. "We were a bunch of misfits, us lot... [an angel, a crazed skitzo vampire, twin demons and a renegade vampire."]
The words ran circles in Lillith's head... Brutal murder... Captive for a week... he looked at me and other demons like we were filth... Poor guy...
"That's terrible," she breathed, pressing her lips together as the flames continued to dance in front of her eyes. "Not the misfits part, I mean what happened to Frazer..." she added hastily. "He never talks about... before. When he had all of you."
Kael's bowed his head.
"Oh..." he muttered. It rather hurt him, hearing how Frazer didn't talk about them, how he kept them secret, as if like a distant memory he didn't want to remember. But that was just like Frazer, to keep it all to himself. He was the quietest out of the group after all. Kael pushed the thought from his mind and turned to Lil with a smile.
"Ahhh, he's a good guy. He... he can't help what has become of him. Sure, he's changed- but that doesn't mean a part of how he used to be isn't still there." He flashed her a dashing grin and shuffled forwards, so that they were sat face to face.
"So tell me, missy..." he cooed, that cheeky smirk of his creeping back into his features. "What's happening between you and our Frazer then?" he twitched his eyebrows and sniggered. "I see the way you look at each other."
Lillith immediately flushed a deep red as a flood of memories came rushing back to her from not so long ago.
"I'm not sure..." she mused. "It's... kinda complicated." She stopped, wishing there were some way to avoid this. But looking up at the demon's face she felt that there was really no way not to. The angel heaved a sigh. "Nothing, I suppose... nothing quantifiable, I mean. But I like him- lots." Lillith wasn't about to get into any vows of eternity or anything, so she breathed deeply through her nose, concentrating, not wanting to reveal too much. "But sometimes he's just so sweet and understanding and... fun to be around. Then something'll happen and he suddenly draws back and it goes back to being difficult again. And Luska isn't helping matters..." She sighed again- she'd gotten carried away.
Kael's face split into a wide smile as he let out a loud, "Awww…"
He grinned at her and ruffled her hair. "How sweet. Beats me why you'd like a mug like him," he said teasingly. "Must be the hair..." he muttered. "Don't worry, sweetheart. Frazer's a softie really, and you can't blame him for being all tense and confused. It's not as if thing like relationships and sharing emotions is something he's used to..." He laughed and gently flicked her nose. "And there's no doubt that Luska's not the slightest bit envious."
Kael's words were comforting, galling, and a bit confusing... What on earth did Luska have to be jealous of? Lillith settled for an appreciative smile, gazing fondly up at Kael, before shoving his arm playfully with the palm of her hand. Her face broke out into a mischievous grin.
Kael cocked an eyebrow, his lips curving into a cocky smirk.
"Oi, missy," he retorted, shoving her back a little harder. "You wanna play like that, do ya? Eh?" he taunted, lowering his eye lids and throwing her a mischievous grin as he began shoving her repeatedly.
Lillith chuckled, swatting his hands away, and attempted to tackle the impish demon, making a wild lunge and wrapping her arms around him. But she was too strong and instead tumbled into his lap, knocking the pair of them over, still laughing breathlessly.
"Oops," she grinned, red-faced, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
The stunned demon quickly composed himself, only to find the rosy-cheeked angel nestled in his lap. His face split into a devious grin as he threw her an enticing, half lidded gaze followed by a cheeky wink.
"Easy tiger..." he teased, pushing himself up onto his elbows. "At least let me buy you dinner first," he joked.
Then, in one swift movement, he flipped her over so that she lay on her back, his arms either side of her. He threw her one last tantalizing smirk, before gliding his hands down to her ribs and tickling them with his fingertips.
Lillith burst out in a fit of laughter, squirming and twisting, trying feebly to prise Kael's hands away. Eventually, panting for breath, she rolled off his lap and onto the soft grass, grinning all over her face.
"Now you're in for it," she simpered, standing up, brushing the dirt from her dress. The girl poised her hands as though going in for the kill, a mock-evil smirk upon her angel's face. And then a sudden gust of wind blew through, lifting her skirt up high and draping it over the cocky demon's head. She leapt back, pulling it free, and a rosy flush crept up over her cheeks.
The startled demon blinked, images of polka dots and snowy white frills dancing in his head. "Er..." he faltered, clearing his throat and ruffling his hair. "Wow..." Awkward.
His gaze scaled the bashful angel's form, stopping midway where his eager eyes lingered, as the memory of her pretty little bow and spotty blue details slipped back into mind. Continuing their journey up, his golden eyes fell upon her sheepish expression causing his face to break into a satisfied smirk.
"What about the top half?" he teased, tilting his head back and grinning manically.
Lillith rolled her eyes, still grinning sheepishly, and leant forward to ruffle the demon's untidy hair.
"Only if you're lucky," she teased. The girl proceeded to sit down, just in case another breeze blew through, with her hands in her lap.
Luska, meanwhile, appeared to be too disgusted for words- he was making retching noises and growling angrily, picturing giving the demon a good old slap around the face. Don't even think about it, Lillith warned.
Kael sniggered quietly and lent back against the tree. There was a moment's silence where the two of them sat, staring into the fire, not saying a word until Kael finally spoke up with a yawn.
"I'm knackered..." he slurred, his eyes transfixed on the dancing flames as a cold wind whipped through them. He shivered, pulling up his hood and slumping down so that he lay on his back, parallel to Lil. He slowly shut his eyes and gestured for Lil to come closer, waving his hand then patting the ground next to him. Obediently, stifling a yawn, Lillith inched closer to Kael, lying down next to him but on her side. She shivered delicately, clutching her hands to her bare arms, wishing vehemently that she had brought a jacket. The angel was already falling asleep, eyes drifting shut as she willed them to remain open. Another gust blew through and she shifted idly closer to the demon. He chuckled and opened one eye.
"Cold? " he cooed. Gently sitting up, he slid off his jacket and spread it across the two of them, pulling Lil closer to him with one arm. "Night..." he mumbled softly as he lay back, his fingers gently combing Lillith's hair. He turned his head so that his chin rested upon the bridge of her nose, his lips softly brushing her forehead as he breathed slowly, drifting off into a peaceful slumber.

The more I read the more entrigued I become. Things are getting interesting with another character invovled. I like how we are seeing a side of an angel that we wouldn't expect (flirty) I mean angel's are practically perfect and innocent. Love the whole chapter.
