Dying To Dance

Chapter 35:

**ALMOST kiss scene warning!**

A while later, seated in the window booth of a warm diner with steamy windows, Luska was scowling heavily while Lil beamed at him, much to his annoyance. She and Alice had all but frog-marched the boys inside, hushing all protests which were mainly from Luska. The walls were covered in pink and white check tiles, the seats constructed of mauve vinyl, each table complete with a vase of daisies. It was a girl's dream, and a boy's nightmare.
An apron-clad waitress with dark, curly hair and pink hoop earrings came bustling up to them at that point, chewing gum, her arms laden with porcelain plates. She laid them down haphazardly in the centre of the table, rather than serve each person individually. Her brown-eyed gaze wandered between the three lads a few times, heart fluttering ecstatically, ignoring the two females. Luska caught her eye and winked, a devilish smirk crossing his features, and she blushed crimson, scurrying away with a last gaze at the other two.
"Alright, nosh!" Luska grinned, diving for a plate of chips- he had almost forgotten entirely what good food tasted like. "Wow, must suck being a vampire- sure I can't tempt you?" he chuckled, waving a chip in front of Frazer's face.
Frazer rolled his eyes and swatted Luska's hand away with a frown. How he wished he could just eat through a plate of chips, or a roast dinner or even a chicken salad, he thought, as he eyed Alice's with a childish yearning. The demoness' attention, on the other hand, was focused on the demon opposite her; Kael's table manners weren't the greatest. He was slouched in his chair with his plate balanced on his stomach, munching on his mayonnaise-covered chicken wings and wiping the mess it left on his mouth with a scrunched up serviette. Alice snorted in distaste and threw one of Luska's chips at him.
"Kael!" she snapped, leaning over the table and swiping at his head.
Frazer chuckled and lent back in his seat, draping an arm casually behind Lil. "How is it?" he asked her quietly, nodding at her plate.
Lillith swallowed her mouthful of spaghetti bolognaise, realising just how famished she was. "It's good," she told the vampire, smiling sympathetically as she twirled her fork around.
"Hey, don't steal food!" Luska complained, pinching a piece of chicken from Alice's plate to replace his stolen chip. It was delicious, and the demon made a show of eating it, very slowly, with an audible "Mmm" and a few sly glances at Frazer.
Lillith glanced between them, catching on, and threw Luska a dark glare. "Stop that," she scolded.
He finished up the last bite, licking his lips and grinning.
Alice gawped at Luska as he ate her chicken.
"Do you mind?" she retorted, taking more of his chips and eating them as payback, but not before dunking them in Kael's pot of mayonnaise first. Kael couldn't help but laugh at the food being passed around the table.
"Straight to your hips, darling..." he said teasingly, waving a finger at her as she savoured every bite of her last chip. Frazer sank lower in his chair as he felt more and more pairs of eyes fixing on them. Their table was by far the noisiest in the cafe...
Luska burped loudly, slouching back in his chair, grinning all over his face. "Good grub," he said, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
Lillith frowned at his uncouth manners, carefully finishing her food and laying the knife and fork down properly on her plate. The waitress re-appeared as if on cue and began clearing away the dishes, obviously trying not to look at the three guys in front of her.
"Shouldn't we be on our way to that Underground place?" Lil asked conversationally. "They are probably still searching for us, after all." The angel frowned, wondering if they were likely to come to a place like this.
"I guess we should..." Kael said, stretching. "We should wait til nightfall, find ourselves a few renegades. We can't ask just anyone."
Alice nodded in agreement, drumming her fingers on the table's glossy surface.
"What should we do until then?" she asked, dabbing the corners of her mouth with a napkin before applying a shimmering, pink lipstick.
Frazer shrugged and ran a hand through his hair. "Well, it won't get dark for a few hours so... I guess we should just keep a low profile."

Another short while later, the five of them had settled into a cosy gazebo situated amongst others in a large, pretty park. It had stretches of thick, green grass separated by shiny pebble-strewn paths and dotted here and there with towering trees. A small river trickled nearby, several iron bridges stretching across it. Lillith was snuggled up close to Frazer, enjoying the vivid sunset, while Luska was perched on the railing that ran around the hut, swinging his legs and leaning against a support post. His eyes were fixed on Alice, his arms folded.
Lillith gazed up at the vampire, a warm smile on her face- she couldn't help falling for him all over again as she absorbed every detail of his features. It was nice having her thoughts to herself, being able to think these things without a snide remark or a retching noise.
Kael sighed as he lay comfortably in the soft grass under the shadow of a apple tree. He enjoyed the warmth of the last of the suns rays as the light faded gradually away. It was so peaceful... so calm, and for once he didn't mind the tranquillity.
Alice pouted her glossy, red lips. She was perched in one of the tree's lower branches, gazing solemnly at Frazer and Lil as they snuggled in the sun's fading light. Being a temptress, she never thought she would envy a couple in love, but she couldn't tear her eyes away from them. The thought irked her nerves and she scoffed. Was she jealous?
"After all this..." Frazer spoke softly, caressing Lil's soft cheek with his thumb, "I still owe you a drink."
He chuckled and pulled her closer, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Lillith sighed contentedly, leaning her head on the vampire's shoulder with her lips parted in a smile.
Luska inched further along the railing, as though their mutual affection might somehow be contagious, a look of disgust on his face that quickly softened as his eyes fell upon Alice.
The last slither of fiery sunlight was now disappearing under the horizon, casting the trees in front of it into shadows as the first few stars pierced the sky. Lil, suddenly losing interest in the nightfall, twisted around so she could gaze properly at Frazer, smiling sweetly.
"I feel like I've known you forever," she breathed after a moment. "Not just a week."
It seemed impossible that so much had happened in such a short space of time...
Frazer smiled warmly at the sweet face gazing up at him, gently cupping it in a single hand and drawing it closer to his.
"Tell me about it," he whispered softly, gazing at her with his icy blue eyes, through lowered lids.
She looked so beautiful under the silvery light of the moon, as it shone brightly above them. He was mesmerised by the way it danced on her long, shimmering locks and by the way the stars twinkled in her eyes as he gazed into them, falling in love all over again. Without even realising it, until the moment their noses brushed gently against each other, their lips had parted and were slowly drawing closer...

Alice watched solemnly from her place up in the tree. She couldn't help but envy Lilith, as she watched her close the distance between her lips and Frazer's.
Lillith closed her eyes, heart fluttering as though it were about to burst out of her chest, equally enchanted by the moon's glow and how it danced over the vampire's features, highlighting every small detail of his face- the image remained in her mind as she awaited the moment when their lips would meet...
They brushed against something, but it wasn't a mouth- it was the wrong shape, and much colder than she had expected. Lillith opened her eyes, taken aback, to a pinkish blur. She moved her head back slightly as her vision focused, and she realised it was a hand. She followed the arm up, leading to a familiar face, grinning wickedly.
"There'll be none of that, thank you."
"Luska!" she yelled, her voice piercing the calm night air, as she attempted to push the demon off of the railing he was perched on- to no avail. He barely moved, chuckling with the biggest grin on his face.
Frazer opened his mouth to protest but before his long stream of obscenities could even leave his lips, he felt a strong arm wrap around his shoulders and pull him forcefully down the bench. It was Kael, grinning broadly. With the most mischievous expression on his face, he slid between Frazer and Lil, snaking an arm around the girl's waist and shuffling as close as he could towards her, flashing the vampire a devilish smirk.
"Get a room," he said loudly, smirking teasingly at Frazer, who glared back. "Ya know, babe..." he purred seductively, pulling a theatrical, flirtatious expression in Lil's direction "...mines free." He winked and kissed the air several times, each time gradually getting closer to her face before he was forcefully grabbed by the scruff and pulled away by an extremely annoyed vampire.
Alice rolled her eyes. The demons were so childish, yet she was somewhat thankful they had ruined Frazer and Lil's romance.
Lillith was still fuming, but she couldn't help but laugh at Kael's inept flirting. The angel threw another dark glare at Luska to show he wasn't off the hook, and he returned it with a twitch of his eyebrows.
"You guys are like the big brothers I never wanted," she muttered, pouting.
"Aaw, I'm touched," Luska cooed. "You might want to just get on with it next time, y'know, instead of drawing out the moment."
"What would you know about kissing?" Lil scoffed, blushing at the word.
"You seemed to think I was pretty good," he teased. "'Course, they weren't my lips..."
Lillith made a noise of disgust and protest. "Too slobbery." Luska pulled a mock-shocked face, with a theatrical gasp of outrage.
Kael raised an eyebrow, eyeing Lil's disgusted face with bemused interest. Then, memories of being possessed by Luska and the heated argument everyone had had sprung to mind causing his features to suddenly fall into an appalled glare. "You didn't! Please tell me you didn't? Not with my body!?" he demanded, his head turning from Luska to Lil. He prayed that it was with the guard's body, yet he knew it wasn't possible considering he had been with them practically the whole time...
Frazer shot Luska a cold glare for bringing up the subject. It wasn't a memory that he wanted to talk about in a hurry. In fact, the vision of his friends lips forcefully taking Lil's, and the thought of Luska being the one to taste them, made his skin crawl and a deep anger burn inside him.
"Oh, did we forget to mention that?" Luska asked offhandedly, pretending to examine his fingernails as a mischievous grin broke out over his face. "Hmm, imagine that... Snogging Lil and not even being able to remember it. Harsh."
Lillith was equally as livid as Frazer, grinding her teeth- the demon had not only ruined her moment with Frazer, but was now bringing up one of the most awkward times they had had. She hadn't forgotten, but the angel had tried very hard to push it from her mind. She pulled a face, remembering all too well now the taste of Kael's breath in her mouth...
"Foul demon," she muttered, referring to Luska as she glared.
Kael pulled an appalled face, quickly getting to his feet to tower over Luska.
"You prick!" he spat, his fists clenched. He stood, glaring down at him for a few, short seconds before turning to Lil. "I can assure you..." he said, his voice adopting a lighter tone, "I'm a much better kisser than him." He winked an eye, smirking cheekily.
Frazer growled angrily, booting Kael's thigh, sending the unsuspecting demon staggering backwards onto the bench.
"Hey!"

Alice gawped at the scene below her, unable to believe her ears. Luska had kissed Lil? She could feel her blood beginning to boil as it surged up into her face, turning it a bight crimson. How dare he? And with her? Her! Why her? She was an angel... A mere, dainty daisy compared to the red rose that was herself...
She scoffed and leapt down from the tree, storming past the gazebo and into the darkness.
